Crowds gathered in the oldest part of town Saturday, September 8, 2012 for a parade marking the community's founding in 1662. The 350th anniversary parade, along Walkley Hill Road, where 18th-century houses still stand, featured the Governor's Footguard, marching bands, antique cars and floats celebrating the Connecticut River town's long history.
On Saturday, May 19th, 2012, the Higganum Vision Group held the first annual “Higganum Hosts…A Dinner for Hydrangeas” progressive dinner. The dinner was a huge success, with over 35 guests and five host homes participating. The excitement in the air was palpable as guests gathered at Equilibrium Gallery for wine and appetizers and were given an envelope with the name of their hosts for the main course. State Representative Phil Miller greeted the guests and sent them on their way to their host homes. After dinner, everyone gathered at the home of Linda and John Fleming for dessert and coffee.
The dinner provided an opportunity for neighbor to meet neighbor and enjoy some wonderful food in some of the most interesting and historic homes in Higganum. And, best of all, almost $2,000 was raised to plant hydrangeas in Higganum Center this fall.
This evening would not have been possible without the support of many Higganum businesses. The Higganum Vision Group would like to thank Hi-Way Package Store, Ideal Weight Systems, LLC, DaVinci Pizza, Red Barn Feed and Hardware, Keith Campbell, DMD, Middletown Rug Cleaning, Dino’s Pizza Restaurant, Pat’s Dry Cleaning, Jack’s Country Restaurant, Attorney William R. Bowles, Higganum Pharmacy, Teri’s Package Store, and Kenyon Labs. And a big thank you to our hosts for the evening – Lorraine Riess and Ralph Levesque of Equilibrium Gallery, Walt and Diana Zilahy, Tim and Gretchen Teran, Emily Carrow and Bill Organek, Liz Bazazi, Gloria Gorton and John and Linda Fleming.
The evening was so successful that Higganum Vision Group plans to make the “Higganum Hosts” progressive dinner an annual event. So, watch the Haddam Bulletin for ads for the 2013 dinner. You won’t want to miss it.
