Higganum Hydrangeas, a project developed by the Higganum Vision Group (HVG), was initiated as a way to unify and beautify Higganum Village and create a memorable effect. With the support and sponsorship of many local merchants, the first stage of the plan began 2011 with the planting of many hydrangeas throughout Higganum Village Center. HVG’s first annual progressive dinner, “Higganum Hosts”, raised the funds for this second planting.
Lorraine Reiss directed this extraordinary effort. Brewed Awakenings offered a free cup of coffee to all volunteers. Although the project was expected to be completed by noon, many volunteers stayed until mid-afternoon, valiantly remaining until every bit of work was complete.
Many thanks to Tommy Thompson who was instrumental in the successful completion of this project.
We are looking for volunteers to “adopt-a-spot” to help maintain these plants. Since these hydrangeas are natives, they only need watering to get established and spring fertilizing. If you can help, please contact Lorraine Riess at firstname.lastname@example.org.
