On Wednesday, April 23, 2014 a Community Meeting/Program was held to discuss the future of the Scovil Hoe Building (current DOT) at the Higganum Community Center. Moderated by Town Planner Liz Glidden, panelists included Wes Haynes from CT Trust for Historic Preservation and director of the "Making Places, Mills of CT" Project; Lisa Malloy from Haddam Historical Society sharing an historical perspective; Patrick Pinnell, a local architect & planner who has worked on restoration of several mills; and Amy Vaillancourt, Project Manager, Tight & Bond, Environmental Issues.
More than 60 attendees discussed a range of issues and ideas. At the end of the event, participants were asked to complete a survey, ranking their preferences for the most mentioned ideas for what to do with the property. The results are in the chart above.
Thank you to all who attended this important program. The meeting demonstrated that there is significant interest on this property in the community, and HVG will be working to keep the topic at the forefront of discussions and planning. Stay tuned for more information about next steps, and how you can be involved.
