Higganum Village Farmers’ Market
Founded in 2008 to promote local farms and merchants, and strengthen Haddam’s sense of community. It has operated independently since 2010. Higganum Village Banners Designed a logo representing the essence of Higganum—where 3 brooks converge—and installed placemaking banners with that logo. (Made possible by the Rockfall Foundation) Higganum Hydrangeas Planted over 60 hydrangeas—primarily native varieties—in Higganum Village to date, creating a beautifying, unifying and memorable effect. Christmas in the Country Produced this festive, multifaceted event in partnership with the Haddam Junior Women’s Club. Last year’s great success has led additional community groups to join in the planning of the 2nd annual event. Deck the Halls Decorated vacant storefronts in partnership with the Haddm Junior Women’s Club. Encouraged merchants to decorate their shops. The Economic Development Commission provided the lights and garlands for village center lampposts. |
Haddam Trails
Developed a website to promote Haddam’s extensive trail network and designed trailhead signs for 3 village trailheads as a first step toward a comprehensive trail marking system. (Made possible by the Rockfall Foundation) Community Visioning Sessions Engaged nearly 250 community members in developing a collective vision for Haddam. Comments were synthesized into 12 Community Vision Statements. Community Action Forum Produced professionally-led brainstorming session, at which 68 participating community members reached consensus on the projects to be undertaken to realize the top 3 Community Vision Statements. Design Charrette Advocating for a professionally led, community based comprehensive design charrette for the village of Higganum. The community placed this project in top priority at the Action Forum. Complete Streets Promoting the community’s vision for ‘Streets that are safe for pedestrians, cyclists and cars’. Collaborating with the Town on grants to achieve this. |
