Because the main mission of the Higganum Vision Group is to capture the community's vision and help set goals and action steps to achieve that collective vision, all of the group's efforts are with that main purpose in mind. Below are the results and data from those efforts to date.
Scovil Hoe Property Survey Results – Wednesday, April 23, 2014
A Community Meeting/Program was held to discuss the future of the Scovil Hoe Building (current DOT) at the Higganum Community Center. As part of its ongoing series of community visioning sessions, the Higganum Vision Group hosted a special visioning program on October 16th focused exclusively on the Cove, asking the question: “What would you like Higganum Cove to be?” This program, 15th in the series and attended by over 50 interested community members. Public Meeting – Tuesday, March 19, 2013As a follow-up to the October, 2012 productive Community Action Forum, the Higganum Vision Group welcomed David Fink, Policy & Communications Director at Partnership for Strong Communities. The meeting was held at 7pm at the Higganum Gange, 315 Saybrook Rd., Higganum. David presented a short portion of the film “Idea Factories: Residents Shaping the Future of their Towns” and lead a discussion about community-based planning — a top priority item as identified at the Action Forum.
Community Action Forum – October, 2012On October 16, 2012, all town residents and officials were invited to attend a Community Action Forum – the next step in the process of capturing the community's collective vision. The event served as an opportunity for anyone who's voice had not been heard in previous survey attempts, and provided a forum for dialog, as the process of assessing, defining and acting on the community's vision continued.

Visioning Session for Town Officials – September, 2010To begin an official dialog with Haddam Town officials, HVG hosted a special Visioning Session for them on September 7, 2010. Documents created to facilitate discussions included a Briefing Booklet which summarized HVG's efforts as of that date, and a Village Precedents document to serve as a visual aid in discussing other communities that Higganum might want to emulate. These documents can be downloaded below.
HVG Official Debut – May, 2010On May 14, 2010, HVG held an official debut event, to which the community at large was invited. Part of the event was a Visual Preference Study, in which participants were asked to view images depicting a variety of other towns, and then anonymously apply green (like) or red (dislike) stickers to those they most or least wanted Higganum to look like. The results were later compiled, and can be downloaded below.
Spring 2010 Community SurveyIn the Spring of 2010, HVG published a Community Survey in the "Haddam Bulletin" giving town residents an opportunity to rank the importance of a variety of issues for Higganum Village. Statistics and Comments from that survey can be downloaded below.
